Egyptian Foreign Minister Calls On the Palestinian Group to Agree to Trump's Gaza Proposal and Lay Down Arms

Egypt and Qatar are actively pursuing diplomatic moves to urge the Palestinian faction to accept Donald Trump's ultimatum to end the war in the Gaza Strip, as stated by Egypt's foreign minister.

Growing Pressure on Hamas

Egypt's foreign minister emphasized that the moment has arrived for the organization to surrender arms and not give Israel any pretext to persist in its operations in the region, where numerous civilians were fatally struck on Friday.

“Let’s not give any excuse for one party to use Hamas as a pretext for this mad daily killings of civilians. What’s happening is far beyond the 7th of October,” the minister remarked.

The diplomat added that Cairo is “coordinating with our brothers in Qatar and with our colleagues in Turkey in order to convince Hamas to respond positively to this plan”.

Key Points of the Trump Proposal

The plan would require Hamas to:

  • Disarm and cease political involvement
  • Return the captives in custody from the October incident, including two dozen are believed to be living

In exchange, Israeli authorities would:

  • Gradually withdraw its forces from Gaza
  • Be replaced by an international force
  • Allow a transitional authority led by the former president

Most analysts concur that the initiative would effectively terminate Hamas’s identity as an armed Palestinian resistance group, while Israel would offer limited compromises.

Internal Divisions within the Faction

The organization is at odds over its reaction, with certain officials requesting more time to evaluate the proposal.

The head of Hamas’s military wing has resisted the plan, considering it a tactic to eliminate the group if they accept.

Those familiar with the matter report that Hamas is expected to request changes regarding:

  • The requirement to lay down arms
  • Continued presence of military in the area
  • Safeguards that the top officials will not be pursued

Gaza Situation Worsens

Israel persisted in its offensive in Gaza City and bombardment across the territory on the recent day, fatally striking numerous civilians.

Eleven of the victims were in the northern city, while the remaining perished in southern Gaza, among them three in an aerial attack in a southern area, which had been once declared a secure area.

Israel issued its ultimate directive for the city on Wednesday, with the defence minister declaring that those who stay would be labeled as militants, a label that defies global norms.

Hundreds of thousands of people remain stranded in the city, including those who are unable to pay for the journey to southern Gaza, which is said to cost over a thousand dollars.

“Countless individuals are forced to sleep outdoors while seeking refuge,” stated an aid official.

The UN said that there is no protected area for people fleeing the city, as zones designated as protected spaces in the south are “places of death”.

A UNICEF spokesperson described the notion of a safe zone as “absurd”, noting that airstrikes are dropped with frightening frequency and schools serving as temporary shelters are frequently demolished.

Hospitals under Overwhelming Demand

Hospitals in southern Gaza are overwhelmed, with the Red Cross field hospital treating more than double its normal limits.

Recently, a major medical facility received 27 bodies of people shot dead by the Israeli military.

The head of paediatrics characterized the situation as “extremely difficult”.

Israel has been reported as attacking healthcare facilities and staff, with a nurse reportedly “abducted” while on duty in a southern city.

Israel has often stated that apprehended doctors had ties to the group, though offering no substantiation.

Total casualties from hostilities in the strip has reached more than sixty-two thousand Gazans fatally injured and nearly 170,000 injured, as reported by the Gaza health authority.
